Team Flame Tree, helmed by captain Peter Levestam, emerges as the frontrunner for the Flame Tree-sponsored Fiji Classic Game Fishing 2024, commencing this weekend. This exciting event, organized by the Denarau Game and Sports Fishing Club, celebrates its inaugural tournament anniversary.
Notable competitors participating in this thrilling contest include seasoned anglers such as Peter Levestam, Jared Wood from Ice T, Thakor Punja from Lunasea, Darren Smith of Hoodlum, Alex Leigh, and veteran Marc McElrath. Women’s representation is strong with Cristina Valente from Sidestep.
Event coordinator Glenn Wakeman shared that the competition has drawn significant interest from both local and international anglers. The winning team will be rewarded with an invitation to the prestigious Offshore World Championship in Costa Rica in 2025, alongside a cash prize of $10,000.
In addition to this, the tournament will feature a range of prizes for different species, individual anglers, and boats, as well as several exciting spot prizes. The event will take place at the new Clubhouse at Port Denarau Marina, conveniently located beside Sails Restaurant.
Wakeman highlighted the contest’s appeal, noting that participants stand a chance to win substantial cash prizes as well as top-quality fishing gear. Major tournament accolades include the Champion Team trophy and corresponding cash prizes, along with awards for Champion Male, Female, and Junior Anglers, as well as a “Last Man Standing” title.
As the season progresses, Team Flame Tree sits at the top of the leaderboard with 2,313.7 points, closely followed by Ice T at 2,278.4 points, and Hoodlum with 1,715.5 points. Individual accolades also reflect competitive standings, with Jared Wood leading with 1,771.8 points, followed by Levestam at 1,500 points, Thakor Punja at 1,000 points, and Darren Smith with 555.4 points.
