Team Flame Tree, led by captain Peter Levestam, is the frontrunner for the highly anticipated Flame Tree-sponsored Fiji Classic Game Fishing 2024, set to kick off this weekend. This inaugural tournament, organized by the Denarau Game and Sports Fishing Club, promises to be an exciting event for both local and international anglers.
Among the skilled participants are notable anglers such as Jared Wood from Ice T, Thakor Punja from Lunasea, Darren Smith of Hoodlum, and veteran Marc McElrath, alongside female competitor Cristina Valente representing Sidestep. Organizer Glenn Wakeman highlighted that the event will reward the winning team with an invitation to the Offshore World Championship in Costa Rica in 2025, along with a cash prize of $10,000.
The competition also boasts a variety of awards for different species, anglers, and boats, as well as several spot prizes. The tournament is being hosted at the new Clubhouse at Port Denarau Marina, conveniently located next to Sails Restaurant.
Wakeman detailed the impressive prize offerings, which include the Champion Team trophy, $10,000, and additional awards for male, female, and junior anglers, as well as a reward for the last participant standing. Currently, Team Flame Tree leads the season’s standings with 2,313.7 points, closely followed by Ice T with 2,278.4 points, and Hoodlum with 1,715.5 points.
In individual standings, Jared Wood leads with 1,771.8 points, followed by Peter Levestam at 1,500 points and Thakor Punja with 1,000 points.
