Team Flame Tree, led by captain Peter Levestam, is poised to make a strong showing in the upcoming Fiji Classic Game Fishing 2024, which kicks off this weekend. This event, organized by the Denarau Game and Sports Fishing Club, marks the inaugural anniversary tournament and promises to attract both local and international fishing enthusiasts.
Among the top competitors are prominent anglers including Jared Wood from Ice T, Thakor Punja from Lunasea, Darren Smith from Hoodlum, Alex Leigh, and the seasoned Marc McElrath. Cristina Valente will represent the female anglers as part of the Sidestep team.
Glenn Wakeman, the event coordinator, expressed excitement over the participation level and competitive spirit this year. He highlighted that the winning team will earn an invitation to the esteemed Offshore World Championship in Costa Rica in 2025, along with a cash prize of $10,000. Participants can also look forward to numerous prizes across various categories, including cash awards for a range of angling achievements and spot prizes.
The tournament will take place at the newly established Clubhouse at Port Denarau Marina, adjacent to Sails Restaurant. Significant cash prizes will be awarded, including a champion team trophy, individual recognitions for the top male, female, and junior anglers, and consolation prizes for big boat teams.
Currently, the Flame Tree team tops the season’s leaderboard with 2,313.7 points, closely followed by Ice T at 2,278.4 points, and Hoodlum with 1,715.5 points. Several individual anglers are leading the way in the points tally, contributing to the growing excitement surrounding the tournament.
