Fiji Classic Game Fishing 2024: Can Team Flame Tree Reel in the Victory?

Team Flame Tree, led by captain Peter Levastam, is poised to take home the title in the inaugural Flame Tree-sponsored Fiji Classic Game Fishing tournament, which kicks off this weekend. The event, organized by the Denarau Game and Sports Fishing Club, celebrates its very first anniversary.

Prominent anglers participating in the tournament include Peter Levestam, Jared Wood from team Ice T, Thakor Punja of Lunasea, Darren Smith representing Hoodlum, Alex Leigh, and veteran angler Marc McElrath. Notably, Cristina Valente will be competing as the sole female angler on team Sidestep.

Glenn Wakeman, the tournament coordinator, noted the excellent turnout of both local and international fishermen. “The winning team will receive an invitation to the Offshore World Championship in Costa Rica in 2025, alongside a cash prize of $10,000,” he shared.

The tournament will also feature a variety of awards for species caught, individual anglers, and boats, as well as exciting spot prizes. The event will take place at the new Clubhouse located at Port Denarau Marina, adjacent to Sails Restaurant.

In addition to the grand cash prizes, participants will compete for major awards that include a Tournament Trophy for the Champion Team, a $10,000 cash prize, and prizes for Champion Male, Female, and Junior Anglers, along with a “Last Man Standing” title.

As of now, Team Flame Tree is leading the season’s points race with 2313.7 points, followed closely by Ice T with 2278.4, then Hoodlum at 1715.5, Lunasea at 100, Rawhiti at 250, and Sere Na Ua at 123.4. For individual standings, Jared Wood leads the leaderboard with 1771.8 points, followed by Levestam with 1500 points, Thakor Punja at 1000 points, and Darren Smith with 555.4 points.

This year’s tournament promises not only fierce competition but also an opportunity for camaraderie among fishing enthusiasts, leaving participants hopeful for a memorable experience.
