In a heartfelt Christmas message, Jese Saukuru, Minister for Youth and Sports and Acting Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, urged Fiji’s sporting community to embody the true spirit of the holiday season by fostering unity, promoting safety, and advocating for healthy living.

Saukuru expressed his warm greetings to young people, athletes, coaches, administrators, and volunteers, highlighting their significant contributions to youth development and nation building through sports. He emphasized that Christmas is a time for reflection and gratitude, aligning the values celebrated during this festive season—teamwork, discipline, respect, and unity—with those learned through sports.

Encouraging the youth to look back on their achievements from the past year, Saukuru called for setting new goals for the upcoming year, firmly believing in the importance of striving for excellence both on and off the field. He underscored the crucial role that sports play in uniting communities and promoting healthy lifestyles, inviting families to engage in active pursuits during the holiday period to strengthen their bonds.

The Minister also highlighted the essential need to ensure the safety and nurturing of children during the festive season, urging families and communities to supervise and protect them diligently. He reminded the community to also remember elderly citizens and individuals with disabilities, emphasizing that small acts of kindness, like a visit or sharing a meal, can significantly impact their lives.

Saukuru further stressed that women and girls should feel safe and respected, declaring that there is no tolerance for violence or abuse in homes or communities, particularly during a time that celebrates peace and goodwill. He reaffirmed that strong families are the backbone of a resilient nation, encouraging the community to care for one another, especially the vulnerable.

The Minister concluded his message by wishing all Fijians a Merry Christmas filled with peace, joy, and blessings, inspiring a spirit of compassion and togetherness during this festive time.
