Fiji and the People’s Republic of China have reiterated their enduring partnership, marking a significant milestone as both nations approach 51 years of diplomatic relations. During a recent courtesy visit, Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Sakiasi Ditoka, met with Wang Yuan, the Chargé d’Affaires at the Chinese Embassy in Suva, where they focused on enhancing bilateral, regional, and multilateral cooperation.

Minister Ditoka expressed gratitude for China’s sustained support for Fiji’s socio-economic growth. He underlined the collaboration between the two nations spans several vital sectors, including agriculture, education, healthcare, trade and investment, infrastructure development, and poverty alleviation efforts. As Fiji moves closer to commemorating over five decades of formal ties, Ditoka affirmed the country’s dedication to the One China Principle and its desire to strengthen its relationship with China further.

In response, Wang reaffirmed China’s commitment to elevating their bilateral relationship. He detailed various ongoing and future development projects designed to improve connectivity, enhance trade and investment, and foster economic growth that would benefit both countries. Discussions also covered trade and economic collaboration through Fiji’s Embassy in Beijing, highlighting key priorities for the upcoming year. This mutual commitment and dedication to deeper cooperation reflect a hopeful outlook for both nations as they continue to build on their long-standing partnership.
