Fiji Celebrates Unity and Diversity at Mid-Autumn Festival

The Mid-Autumn Festival in Fiji highlights the nation’s diversity and appreciation for its Chinese community. Also referred to as the Moon Festival, this event was celebrated by the Chinese population in Fiji with themes of gratitude and sharing joy.

During the festivities in Suva, Fiji’s President Wiliame Kotonivere expressed his gratitude to the Chinese farmers for their crucial role in local agriculture. “They have been instrumental in farming our everyday food crops, ensuring that our families have a choice of locally grown vegetables,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of their contributions to Fiji’s agricultural exports.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is highly anticipated among the Chinese community in Fiji and worldwide, marking the harvest season and serving as a time for family gatherings and expressions of thanks. Mr. Kotonivere highlighted that the festival reflects important values such as unity and love, reminding everyone of their significance in personal lives and community relations.

He also noted Fiji’s stunning natural beauty, which provides an exceptional backdrop for such celebrations, encouraging everyone to appreciate and protect the environment for future generations.

Furthermore, Mr. Kotonivere underscored the importance of unity and mutual respect in these challenging times, urging the community to support one another and celebrate the diversity that strengthens Fiji. The Chinese community in Fiji is also preparing to commemorate China’s National Day, marking the 75th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China.
