Fiji Celebrates Unity and Diversity at Mid-Autumn Festival

The Mid-Autumn Festival celebration in Fiji highlights the nation’s cultural diversity and respect towards China. Known as the Moon Festival, the local Chinese community commemorated the occasion with gratitude and the sharing of prosperity.

During the festivities in Suva, Fijian President Wiliame Kotonivere expressed his appreciation for the contributions of the Chinese farming community. He acknowledged their vital role in cultivating local food crops, which help provide families with a variety of fresh vegetables. Kotonivere also recognized their efforts in advancing the development of Fiji’s agricultural exports.

The Mid-Autumn Festival, which is celebrated by the Chinese community in Fiji and around the world, marks the harvest season and serves as a time for family reunions, thanksgiving, and sharing joy. Kotonivere noted that the festival symbolizes family, unity, and love for one another, emphasizing the significance of these values in both personal lives and the community.

“The spirit of the festival embodies harmony and completeness, reflecting the unity and strength of our diverse society in Fiji,” he stated. The Chinese community has played a crucial role in shaping Fiji’s multicultural landscape and has significantly enriched the country’s cultural heritage.

Kotonivere praised the traditions, values, and dedication of the Chinese community for contributing to Fiji’s development as a vibrant and inclusive nation. He also highlighted the country’s natural beauty, from its stunning beaches and clear waters to its lush rainforests and mountains, calling for an appreciation of the environment during celebrations.

He further emphasized the need for unity and mutual respect, especially in challenging times, urging everyone to support one another and celebrate the diversity that strengthens Fiji.

The Chinese community in Fiji is also looking forward to celebrating China’s National Day, which marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
