Hundreds of women from Bua Province were honored for their indomitable spirit, leadership, and significant contributions to their families and communities during the International Rural Women’s Day celebration in Saolo Village. The event was officiated by Filimoni Vosarogo, Acting Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, who praised the resilience of rural women who strive for progress despite facing various daily challenges.
During his address, Vosarogo highlighted the pivotal role of women in rural areas, noting that they often spearhead initiatives that enhance livelihoods and foster development. “Despite the struggles and geographical barriers, many rural women have excelled in leadership and nation-building,” he stated, underlining the vital impact these women have on society.
He encouraged women to prioritize their health and well-being and urged men to support their partners in contributing to family and community growth. Furthermore, the Ministry is currently conducting a three-day REACH program in Saolo Village to coincide with International Rural Women’s Day, the International Day of Older Persons, and Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This initiative aims to uplift and empower women while raising awareness on vital health issues.
This celebration echoes past events, such as International Women’s Day, which recently emphasized the importance of gender equality and the invaluable contributions women make in various sectors. The inspiring stories of women overcoming significant hardships resonate throughout these gatherings, showcasing their unwavering determination and resilience.
As Fiji continues to support initiatives that empower women, the ongoing efforts to recognize their contributions serve as beacons of hope, inspiring future generations to break barriers and redefine roles within their communities. Such celebrations and programs promise to foster stronger networks among women, ultimately paving the way for economic independence and collective growth in rural areas.
