The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) has celebrated the successful conclusion of the United Nations Military Observer Course (UNMOC), a comprehensive two-week peacekeeping training program held at Blackrock Camp in Nadi. The course, facilitated by the Australian Defence Force and supported by the Peace Operations Training Centre (POTC), included 24 participants from various military organizations, including the New Zealand Defence Force, Papua New Guinea Defence Force, and His Majesty’s Armed Forces of Tonga.
The curriculum was designed to equip future UN peacekeepers with essential skills in conflict resolution, international law, and effective monitoring and reporting in high-stress environments. During the graduation ceremony, RFMF Chief of Staff Brigadier General Sapenafa Motufaga praised the participants for their commitment and highlighted the importance of regional cooperation in enhancing the training experience. He noted that UN military observers have a critical role not only in observation but also in fostering trust and facilitating dialogue in conflict zones.
Brig-Gen Motufaga expressed gratitude to the instructors and encouraged the graduates to embody professionalism and collaboration as they prepare for potential international deployments. This training initiative aligns closely with the RFMF’s ongoing efforts to improve operational readiness and capabilities, as seen in previously completed courses such as Military Instructor courses and the Coral Training partnerships with the Australian Defence Force.
Overall, this gathering represents a significant step forward for the RFMF and its commitment to contributing to international peacekeeping efforts, reflecting a hopeful future as Fijian forces continue to collaborate and enhance their capabilities alongside regional partners.
