Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka participated in a lively celebration of the Republic of Korea’s National Day aboard the ROKS Hansando, which was docked at Suva Wharf on Thursday evening.
The event was organized by the Korean Embassy in Fiji and highlighted the strong friendship and diplomatic relations shared between Fiji and Korea, which have been ongoing since 1971.
The ROKS Hansando, a Korean naval helicopter training vessel with a crew of 290, is visiting Fiji as part of a 110-day journey that includes stops at eight countries and ten ports. This visit marks the ship’s eighth time in Fiji, showcasing the solid defense and maritime collaboration between the two countries.
Korean Ambassador to Fiji, His Excellency Jin-Hyung Kim, spoke about the reinforced bilateral relations across several sectors including trade, culture, tourism, defense, and security. He expressed his appreciation to the diplomats and dignitaries present, celebrating Korea’s National Day away from home.
The ship’s deck was festively decorated with Korean flags, traditional embellishments, and lights, creating a vibrant atmosphere. Guests enjoyed a selection of Korean cuisine, beverages, and cultural performances that highlighted the nation’s rich heritage and accomplishments.
The evening culminated in a ceremonial toast led by Prime Minister Rabuka and Ambassador Jin-Hyung, symbolizing the enduring partnership between Fiji and Korea.
This celebration not only marks a significant day for Korea but also reinforces the importance of international collaboration and friendship, paving the way for future cooperation in various fields.
