In a proactive move to address cancer awareness and prevention, the Fiji Cancer Society has launched a series of “Health Expos” across the nation, kicking off with a successful event in Suva. The first expo took place last Saturday at the World Harvest Church parking lot, where various medical professionals gathered to provide essential screening services and health-related information.
Shweta Kapoor, Programs Officer for the Fiji Cancer Society, emphasized the expo’s significance, stating that it presents a valuable chance for individuals to access a range of health services. The event featured various stakeholders offering screenings and awareness sessions at no cost, including organizations focused on drug awareness, diabetes, and children’s health, along with dental services.
Kapoor urged attendees to prioritize their health by getting tested at the onset of any symptoms, highlighting that early detection is crucial in improving health outcomes. She encouraged the public to take advantage of such initiatives, as they provide an excellent opportunity to connect with healthcare professionals and receive necessary screenings.
This initiative not only raises awareness about cancer but also promotes a culture of health screening in Fiji. Such community-focused events can significantly contribute to early detection and better management of health issues, ultimately fostering a healthier society.
The continued effort by the Fiji Cancer Society and its partners to educate and encourage health screenings is a hopeful step toward reducing the impact of cancer in the community.
