The Fiji Cancer Society organized free health screenings today in Suva to commemorate February as cancer awareness month. This initiative brought together several non-governmental organizations at the Market in Suva, where they conducted health checks and provided essential educational resources to the public about maintaining their health.
This year’s campaign, themed “United by Unique,” was highlighted by Program Officer Shweta Kapoor, who emphasized the importance of accessibility to medical services. Kapoor stated, “We want to bring out all these services to the general public so that it’s easier for them to get all these types of services under one roof.”
Breast cancer survivor Subhasni Devi took the opportunity to encourage individuals to overcome their fears and prioritize their health by attending regular medical check-ups. “My message to ladies and men, please don’t be afraid and go to the hospital,” she urged, stressing the importance of proactive health management.
Ratu Vilive Tacikalou expressed gratitude for the screening event, noting its convenience for those seeking multiple health check-ups in a single day. “I’m very thankful for this initiative; it has been a great help to us. Sometimes it can take a very long time to get checked in health centers, but this has made it easier,” he shared.
In addition to today’s event, the Fiji Cancer Society plans to host another health Expo in Lautoka on February 20th, continuing its commitment to raising awareness and providing valuable health services to the community. This initiative not only supports individuals in managing their health but also fosters a sense of community and connection as they unite for a common cause.
