The Ministry of Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry has announced a call for Expressions of Interest (EOI) from qualified architectural and engineering firms for the development of a State-of-the-Art Girmit Museum. This museum aims to serve as a national cultural landmark that honors the history and contributions of the Girmitiyas, the Indian indentured laborers, and their descendants in Fiji.

In a public statement, Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Charan Jeath Singh, emphasized that the museum will be constructed behind the existing Girmit Centre in Lautoka. The selected consultant will play a crucial role in engaging stakeholders, developing concept and schematic designs, and preparing comprehensive architectural and engineering plans for the museum.

The deadline for submitting EOIs is set for 4 p.m. on January 13, 2026. This initiative reflects a strong commitment to preserving the cultural heritage and stories of those who significantly impacted Fijian history, highlighting the importance of remembrance and recognition in shaping national identity.
