The Fiji Police Force is calling on the public to actively engage in the national effort against drug abuse, emphasizing that combating this issue cannot be managed by authorities alone. Deputy Commissioner of Police Aporosa Lutunauga shared this message, highlighting an “all-of-nation” strategy aimed at addressing drug-related activities throughout the country. This initiative is spearheaded by the government, with strong collaboration and partnerships among various stakeholders.
In an interview with Fiji One News, Lutunauga elaborated on the necessity for a collective response to the drug crisis, stating that while the police have a duty to enforce the law, it is vital for every sector of society to participate in the solution. He stated, “This is an all-of-nation approach that the Fiji Police will be adopting. It is being headed by government. The war against drugs is a national issue.”
Emphasizing shared accountability, Lutunauga remarked that the responsibility lies not just with law enforcement agencies such as the police and navy, but with every citizen of Fiji. He noted, “It’s not only government, not only police or navy, it is everyone’s responsibility, all citizens of this country.”
To effectively counter drug-related challenges, the police are formulating strategies that involve community partnerships and collaboration. Lutunauga urged local neighborhoods to support law enforcement by staying alert and reporting suspicious activities. He underscored that public cooperation is crucial in protecting communities and ensuring a safer future for the nation, free from the detrimental effects of drugs.
This collaborative approach represents a hopeful step toward fostering a united front against drug issues, encouraging citizens to become proactive participants in the fight for a healthier and safer society.
