The Cabinet has reached a decision to amend the Passport Act 2002, allowing eligible senior officials to receive Official Passports strictly for official purposes and limited to their time in office.

Official Passports are one of the four types of passports issued by the Fiji Immigration Department, primarily reserved for disciplined forces on peacekeeping missions. The additional categories of passports include the Ordinary Passport, Diplomatic Passport, and Emergency Passport.

The proposed amendments to the Passport Act will be presented to the Cabinet for further review and consideration.

This move could enhance the efficiency of official travel for senior government officials, thereby supporting their responsibilities and commitment to serving the nation. By facilitating official engagements, these amendments may strengthen international relations and promote Fiji’s interests on a global stage.
