Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Local Government, Filimoni Vosarogo, has addressed confusion surrounding the Government’s stance on the Miss Fiji Pageant. He clarified that the Cabinet’s recent press release aimed to elucidate decisions made in October 2025, not endorse actions taken beyond this scope.
Mr. Vosarogo emphasized the limited role of the Cabinet, stating it merely approved the return of the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant to Fiji after a seven-year hiatus and allocated funding for both the Miss Fiji and Miss Pacific pageants. He noted, “The expectation of the Government is that, like all Cabinet decisions, it will be respected.”
However, he stressed that if organizers opt not to follow these guidelines, the responsibility lies with them, not with the Government. “If they chose not to abide by it… it is their decision and not a Government-endorsed departure,” he affirmed, addressing claims that contradicting endorsements were given by the organizers during press conferences.
Mr. Vosarogo’s remarks were intended to clear up misunderstandings regarding the Cabinet’s role in the event, confirming that there had been significant misconceptions about the decisions made. He firmly stated that his comments do not contradict the Prime Minister or the line minister but serve to clarify the Cabinet process and protect the Government from any unrelated decisions made by others.
This clarification showcases the Government’s commitment to transparency and accountability, reinforcing the importance of adhering to established procedures in all public events. In a broader context, it highlights the Government’s supportive role in boosting local cultural events while maintaining clear boundaries on its involvement.
