Vodafone Fiji Bulikula achieved a significant 18-6 victory over the Cook Islands Moana during the 2024 Pacific Championships Women league, held at their home ground over the weekend.

Captain Talei Holmes highlighted the importance of teamwork and the squad’s strong defensive performance as key factors in their win. She expressed her excitement and disbelief about the result, stating, “I’m on a massive high, can’t believe it. Being in a massive crowd here in Fiji is just a surreal feeling. Getting through another week with my girls is amazing.”

Holmes noted the special bond within the team, saying, “This past week has been incredible; we have never been part of a Fiji team that is this close. There is something special about this group.”

She also recognized the contributions of the coaching staff for their selection and guidance this season, expressing pride in her teammates. Holmes specifically praised Vitalina Naikore for her impressive hat-trick of tries, emphasizing that the victory was a team effort rather than the result of one player’s performance.

“Also, the new girls truly amazed me; they stepped up in their roles,” Holmes added. “It was incredible to see the debutants shine, and we gelled so well together. I’m so proud of them.”

Looking ahead to their next challenge against Samoa, Holmes acknowledged the formidable nature of their opponents and emphasized the importance of thorough preparation. The team is focused on addressing any areas needing improvement from their last game and sharpening their strategies to compete effectively against Samoa.

The Fiji Bulikula will face Off Fetu Samoa in Auckland, vying for a spot in the 2026 Rugby League World Cup.
