Fiji Bulikula’s Game-Changer: Losana Lutu Joins Squad for Pacific Bowl Championship

Wests Tigers five-eighth Losana Lutu is one of eight NRLW players selected to represent Fiji Bulikula in the upcoming Pacific Bowl Championship. The announcement was made by Bulikula head coach Joe Rabele over the weekend.

Rabele mentioned that the team scouted for talent in Australia and secured eight players for the squad. He specifically highlighted Lutu’s inclusion, noting her impressive skills as a halfback for the Wests Tigers.

Born in Suva, Lutu has quickly progressed through the Wests Tigers system, showcasing her talent as a five-eighth with strong running abilities. Her standout performance in 2022 helped New South Wales win the Under-19s State of Origin, and she also contributed to Wests Tigers winning their first title in the Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership. Lutu is contracted with the club until the conclusion of the 2026 season.

Rabele is focused on assembling the best possible team as they prepare to face Cook Islands Moana on October 26 in Suva, a match which serves as a qualifier for the 2026 Rugby League World Cup Women. He has been observing local women’s competitions to finalize the squad.

With acknowledgement of the need for improvement in the local competition, Rabele emphasized the significance of the upcoming qualifier in achieving their World Cup ambitions. He is currently awaiting clearance from the NRL regarding player eligibility and plans to include several secondary school athletes from the Lami Steelers in the squad.

Half of the 35-player squad will be comprised of local talent, a strategy Rabele believes will enhance their chances in the qualifiers. Reflecting on last year’s absence from the World Cup, he expressed optimism for this year’s preparation, stating it provides a valuable opportunity to identify promising players and build a strong, diverse team.
