The Fiji Bulikula women’s rugby league team has achieved a remarkable advancement in the international rankings, making a leap from 26th to 16th place, following their victory in securing a berth for the 2025 World Series. This achievement reflects not only their skill on the field but also their commitment to regular competition, as they doubled their international matches this year during the World Cup qualifying tournament—the first since 1998.
In comparison, Samoa and Tonga have both secured higher positions, with Samoa impressively rising from 24th to 11th after a successful Pacific Championships. Tonga also showed improvement, climbing from 14th to 15th.
In the men’s rankings, however, the Fiji Bati experienced a slight decline, falling from 6th to 7th place, as Papua New Guinea surged ahead to take the 6th spot.
The International Rugby League (IRL) World Rankings take into account each nation’s performance over the current season and the three previous seasons, highlighting the competitive nature of this sport and the ongoing evolution of teams’ standings on the global stage.
This upward momentum for the Fiji Bulikula is not only a testament to their hard work and growth in the sport but also sets a positive precedent for the development of women’s rugby league in the region. As they continue to compete and improve, there is great potential for future successes on the international stage.
