The Fiji Bulikula is preparing for a challenging final against Fetu Samoa this Saturday in Auckland, New Zealand. This follows their successful 18-6 victory over Cook Islands at HFC Stadium in Suva last Saturday.

The winning team will secure a place in the 2026 Women’s Rugby League World Cup, while the runner-up will have the opportunity to compete in the World Series against other nations, including Ireland, to earn a qualifying spot.

Captain Talei Holmes acknowledges the strength of Samoa, stating, “We know Samoa is a strong side all over the park too like our team.” She expressed confidence in their coaching staff and the team’s capabilities, believing they can achieve victory.

Holmes emphasized her pride in leading the Bulikula to a win in front of their supporters. She credited the coaching staff for their strategic player selections and praised the team’s performance. She was particularly pleased with the debutants who showcased strong teamwork during the match against Cook Islands.

“I told the players to complete our set and maintain a tight defensive line when we were trailing 6-0,” Holmes recounted. “We knew we couldn’t give up, and we scored next, regaining momentum.”

She highlighted winger Vitalina Naikore’s standout performance, noting that she scored a hat trick. Holmes acknowledged that the team’s success was due to collective effort rather than individual contributions.

Head coach Josaia Rabele expressed gratitude for the assistance from Tony Herman, the women’s coach of the Cronulla Sutherland Sharks, who contributed to their victory. He also recognized the efforts of the entire coaching staff behind the scenes during their Pacific Championship campaign.

Rabele encouraged the players to maintain their aggressive attacking strategy and to utilize the wingers effectively, praising Naikore and Abigayle Sekitoga as exceptional talents. He emphasized the importance of experienced players mentoring younger teammates, which has been a key factor in their campaign’s success.

In closing, Rabele thanked sponsors and family supporters for their ongoing encouragement and commended the team for their perseverance and belief in themselves throughout their World Cup qualifying efforts.
