Wests Tigers five-eighth Losana Lutu is one of eight NRLW players set to represent the Fiji Bulikula in the upcoming Pacific Bowl Championship. This announcement was made by Bulikula head coach Joe Rabele over the weekend.

Rabele shared that they scouted players in Australia and selected eight for the squad. He highlighted the inclusion of Lutu, who currently plays as a halfback for the Wests Tigers.

Lutu, who hails from Suva and is a Campbelltown Junior, has progressed rapidly through the ranks of the Wests Tigers in recent years. A talented five-eighth with strong running skills, she had a standout season in 2022, contributing to New South Wales’ success in the Under-19s State of Origin and securing her first title with the Wests Tigers in the Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership. She is contracted with the club until the end of the 2026 season.

Rabele emphasized the importance of assembling the best team for the upcoming match against Cook Islands Moana on October 26 in Suva, which will serve as a qualifier for the 2026 Women’s Rugby League World Cup.

He has been closely monitoring local women’s competitions and mentioned having several players in consideration for the 35-member squad, which still awaits approval from the NRL regarding player eligibility.

Rabele noted that while there is significant talent to work with, there is also a need to enhance the local competition’s level. He expressed the significance of the upcoming qualifiers, stating that the ultimate goal is to secure a place in the 2026 Women’s Rugby League World Cup.

While optimistic about the squad, Rabele mentioned including several secondary school athletes from the Lami Steelers, aiming for a 50 percent representation of local-based players in the roster. Reflecting on the previous year, he expressed disappointment that the Fiji Bulikula was not part of the World Cup, but he is now focused on identifying and developing the team’s talent.
