The Fiji Bulikula is preparing for a challenging final against Fetu Samoa this Saturday in Auckland, New Zealand. This follows their victory over the Cook Islands with a score of 18-6 at HFC Stadium in Suva last weekend.

The winner of this match will secure automatic qualification for the 2026 Women’s Rugby League World Cup, while the runner-up will enter the World Series to compete in a qualifying tournament against other nations, including Ireland.

Captain Talei Holmes acknowledges the difficulty of the upcoming game. She remarked, “We know Samoa is a strong side, just like our team. I’m confident in our coaching staff and believe in our ability to achieve our goals.”

Holmes expressed her pride in leading the Bulikula to a home victory in front of their families and supporters. She praised the coaching staff for their efforts in selecting the team and guiding them throughout the season.

“We felt unity within the group, and I’m genuinely proud of the girls,” she stated. She also commended the performance of the debutants against the Cook Islands, noting their ability to work together effectively.

In recounting the match, Holmes emphasized the importance of maintaining composure, especially when they were trailing 6-0 against the Moana side. “We knew we couldn’t give up and managed to regain momentum,” she said.

Winger Vitalina Naikore was highlighted for her standout performance, scoring a hat trick. Holmes acknowledged the team’s combined effort in securing the win, attributing their success to strong contributions from every player.

Head coach Josaia Rabele credited Tony Herman, the women’s coach of the Cronulla Sutherland Sharks, for his valuable assistance in their victory. He expressed gratitude for the dedication of the entire coaching staff throughout the Pacific Championship campaign.

Rabele encouraged his players to maintain their offensive pressure and utilize wide plays to engage their wingers, Naikore and Abigayle Sekitoga. He emphasized the significant impact of experienced players mentoring younger teammates, which has proven to be a key strength during their campaign.

In closing, Rabele extended his thanks to the sponsors and families for their unwavering support, acknowledging the challenges faced but highlighting the team’s resilience and belief in themselves during their quest for World Cup qualification.
