The Fiji Bulikula is preparing for a challenging final against Fetu Samoa this Saturday in Auckland, New Zealand. This follows their victory over the Cook Islands, where they secured an 18-6 win at the HFC Stadium in Suva last weekend.

The winner of this final will automatically qualify for the 2026 Women’s Rugby League World Cup, while the runner-up will take part in the World Series, facing other countries, including Ireland, in a subsequent qualifying tournament.

Captain Talei Holmes recognizes the formidable challenge they face. “We know Samoa is a strong side all over the park too, like our team,” she stated. Holmes expressed confidence in her coaching staff and the team’s ability to perform well.

Holmes shared her pride in leading the Bulikula to victory in front of family and fans. She commended the coaching staff for their player selections, highlighting their outstanding efforts throughout the year, which were evident on the field.

She was especially pleased with the performances of the debutants against the Cook Islands. “They all stood up, and you could see that everyone gelled so well together, so I’m proud of the debutants as they deserve the win too,” Holmes remarked.

Holmes reminded her team to maintain focus, especially when they were trailing 6-0. “We just knew we couldn’t give up and we scored next and got the momentum back on our side,” she noted.

She also recognized winger Vitalina Naikore, who was named player of the match for scoring a hat trick. “We have such strong outside backs and a solid middle, which is how we won the game,” Holmes stated. “Having Vitalina on the wing finishing those tries for us is amazing.”

Head coach Josaia Rabele thanked Cronulla Sutherland Sharks women’s coach Tony Herman for his assistance in shaping their defensive and offensive strategies. He expressed gratitude to the entire coaching staff for their behind-the-scenes work throughout the Pacific Championship campaign.

Rabele advised players to maintain their offensive efforts and utilize their wingers effectively. “Both wingers Naikore and Abigayle Sekitoga are the best wingers,” he noted, adding that they are fortunate to have an exceptional captain and dedicated players who contributed to the win.

He highlighted the strong leadership from experienced players and their ability to connect with younger players as a key strength in their campaign. Rabele also thanked their sponsors and families for their support, acknowledging the team’s struggles while praising their perseverance and faith in themselves during the World Cup qualifying journey.
