The Fiji Bulikula is preparing for a challenging final against Fetu Samoa this Saturday in Auckland, New Zealand. This follows their victory over Cook Islands with a score of 18-6 at the HFC Stadium in Suva last Saturday. The winner of this final will secure a place in the 2026 women’s rugby league World Cup, while the runner-up will join the World Series to face teams like Ireland in a qualifying tournament.

Captain Talei Holmes acknowledges the formidable challenge ahead against Samoa, stating, “We know Samoa is a strong side all over the park too like our team.” She expressed confidence in their coaching staff and the team’s capabilities, emphasizing the honor of leading the Bulikula to a victory at home for their families and fans.

Holmes praised the coaching staff for their excellent player selections and training this year, which was evident on the field. She highlighted the impressive performance of debutants in the match against Cook Islands, appreciating their seamless integration into the team.

In the face of initial adversity, trailing 6-0, Holmes instructed her players to focus on completing sets and maintaining a solid defensive line. The team responded well, regaining momentum and ultimately taking control of the game.

Holmes recognized winger Vitalina Naikore for her standout performance, which included a hat trick. She noted the team’s collective effort in securing the win, emphasizing the strength of their outside backs and forwards.

Head coach Josaia Rabele credited the assistance of Cronulla Sutherland Sharks women’s coach Tony Herman in developing their defensive and offensive strategies. He thanked the rest of the coaching staff for their behind-the-scenes efforts throughout the Pacific Championship campaign.

Rabele encouraged his players to continue their aggressive attacking play and utilize the width of the field, especially through key wingers like Naikore and Abigayle Sekitoga. He appreciated the leadership from experienced players and the bond they’ve created with the younger team members as a key strength in their campaign.

Acknowledging the support from sponsors and families, Rabele expressed gratitude for the team’s perseverance despite challenges, commending the players for maintaining their faith and commitment to achieving success in the women’s rugby league World Cup qualifiers.
