Fiji Bula Boys Boost Squad Ahead of World Cup Qualifiers

Digicel Fiji Bula Boys head coach Rob Sherman has expanded his squad by adding three new players as preparation ramps up for the upcoming FIFA World Cup Oceania Qualifiers.

The latest recruits are midfielder Leroy Jennings from Sydney United FC, defender Gabrieli Matanisiga from Wellington Olympic AFC, and defender Kavaia Rawaqa from Suva FC.

These players join the 27-member squad ahead of the qualifiers, which are set to start on October 10 at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.

Team manager Kartik Reddy stated that the additions aim to bolster the team as they strive for a successful campaign in the qualifiers.

“Our goal is to secure 1.5 spots available to OFC for qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” Reddy said.

The squad will enter training camp on September 29 at the Fiji FA Academy in Ba, with the final 23-member squad to be announced on October 5.

Remeuru Takiata and Muni Shivam Naidu will not participate due to work commitments. Additionally, team captain Roy Krishna is expected to join the squad on October 5 following his club obligations.

Fiji has been placed in Group A for the qualifiers, facing the Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, and New Caledonia. The Bula Boys will begin their campaign against the Solomon Islands on October 10 in Suva at 7 PM. They will then go up against Papua New Guinea on November 14 and New Caledonia on November 17, with both matches scheduled at the PNG Football Stadium.
