Fiji Builkula Gears Up for Challenge Against Cook Islands Moana

Fiji Builkula participated in a training session at Albert Park yesterday, preparing for their upcoming match against the Cook Islands Moana team in the second week of the 2024 Pacific Championships.

Team captain Talei Holmes addressed the media after practice, emphasizing the importance of focusing on key areas for improvement throughout the week.

“We all gathered to work on our attacking and defensive strategies and reviewed all the movements we need to practice this week,” Holmes shared. “It was great to come together and get some time with the ball.”

Holmes noted the strength of the Cook Islands team, particularly in the middle, and acknowledged the need for their team to bolster their ruck.

“We know we need to tighten our game in that area; they have some strong players, and our defensive strategies will be crucial for winning,” she stated.

With ties to Taveuni in the north, Holmes expressed that the team’s morale was high following their arrival at the Grand Pacific Hotel on Saturday and their church service at the Qauia Methodist Church in Lami on Sunday.

“We’ve already established a bond off the field by doing devotions and team meetings, which I believe is very important,” she explained. “We’re developing a strong connection, as seen during our training yesterday, and we are building on that.”
