The Fiji Meteorological Service has reported that Tropical Disturbance TD01F poses a low potential risk of developing into a Tropical Cyclone. However, it is expected to bring strong winds and heavy rain to Fiji in the coming hours.

As of midday today, TD01F was located approximately 240 kilometers west of Yasawa-i-rara and 270 kilometers west-northwest of Nadi. The weather agency warns that as TD01F approaches Fiji, residents can expect periods of heavy rainfall, with possible thunderstorms, starting later today and continuing until the system moves away from the country tomorrow.

Coastal areas, including Sigatoka, Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua, Rakiraki, and others, will experience strong northwesterly winds, with average speeds ranging from 37 to 46 kilometers per hour. Gusts could reach up to 55 kilometers per hour. This has raised concerns about localized heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding, especially in areas already vulnerable due to saturated ground conditions from previous rains.

Additionally, river levels across Fiji are anticipated to rise as TD01F brings more rain. The Fiji Meteorological Service has advised residents to remain alert and take necessary precautions as the weather system approaches.

This situation presents an opportunity for local communities to come together and support one another during adverse weather conditions. Preparedness and responsiveness can significantly mitigate the risks associated with heavy rainfall and flooding.

In summary, while TD01F currently poses a minimal risk of becoming a cyclone, it still brings significant weather concerns that require attention and action from both individuals and local authorities to ensure safety across Fiji.
