The Fiji Meteorological Service has reported that Tropical Disturbance TD01F has a low likelihood of developing into a Tropical Cyclone. However, the region can expect inclement weather including strong winds and heavy rainfall as the disturbance approaches Fiji.

As of midday, TD01F was located approximately 240 kilometers west of Yasawa-i-rara and 270 kilometers northwest of Nadi. The meteorological office warns that from later today, periods of rain, some heavy, along with possible thunderstorms, will affect most areas. Strong northwest winds are also expected as the disturbance gets closer, continuing until it moves away from the country tomorrow.

Coastal regions from Sigatoka to Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, and extending to Tavua and Rakiraki are forecasted to experience strong winds, with average speeds between 37 to 46 kilometers per hour and gusts reaching up to 55 kilometers per hour. Areas such as Ba, Ra, Nadroga/Navosa, and the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, along with Vatulele, Kadavu, Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and smaller nearby islands, are also included in the warning.

Fiji Met emphasizes that localized heavy rain may cause flash flooding, especially in areas that are already saturated or prone to flooding downstream of major rivers and small streams. Additionally, river levels across the country are expected to rise as the weather system approaches, bringing further rain.

In light of the forecast, it is essential for residents to stay updated on weather alerts and take necessary precautions to safeguard their safety and property. Communities often come together during such events, showcasing the resilience and unity of the people in the face of potential challenges.

Summary: Tropical Disturbance TD01F is expected to bring strong winds and heavy rain to Fiji, with a low chance of developing into a Tropical Cyclone. Residents are advised to prepare for possible flash flooding and rising river levels as the disturbance approaches.
