A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for the western region and interior areas of Viti Levu, including Navua, Sigatoka, Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, as well as the interior regions of Ba, Ra, and Nadroga-Navosa. This warning comes after thunderstorms developed over Viti Levu’s interior, with forecasters predicting that they will intensify and spread westward.

Authorities are alerting the public that this weather system could lead to intense rainfall in the affected areas over the next several hours. The severe thunderstorms may result in heavy downpours, raising the risk of flash flooding, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone regions. Additionally, there will be a heightened risk of frequent and dangerous lightning strikes.

Members of the community are advised to steer clear of flooded creeks and drains, and to avoid any attempt to walk, cycle, or drive through floodwaters. Thunderstorm activity, characterized by intense rainfall and lightning, is expected to persist into the late afternoon or evening.

While the forecast indicates potential impacts from the severe weather, officials caution that there is some uncertainty regarding the movement and development of the thunderstorms. Consequently, not all areas may be affected, and the severity of impacts can vary by location.

The public has been urged to remain vigilant as this weather system develops and to stay updated with local weather reports.
