A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for parts of Fiji, notably affecting northeastern Viti Levu and the eastern regions of Vanua Levu. The warning highlights specific areas in Viti Levu, including Ra–Rakiraki, Tailevu North, Nasinu, Nausori, and Naitasiri. In Vanua Levu, the warning encompasses regions from Labasa to Udu Point and from Wailevu through Savusavu to Saqani, including Natewa.

Weather officials anticipate that thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rainfall will develop in the afternoons and evenings over the coming hours. This weather pattern raises concerns for flash flooding in low-lying areas as the unstable weather is attributed to a trough of low pressure combined with prevailing winds. The thunderstorms are projected to bring intense lightning and significant rainfall, with these conditions likely persisting until late afternoon or into the evening.

Residents are urged to take necessary precautions, including steering clear of flooded creeks and drains and avoiding any travel through floodwaters. It is also advised to unplug electrical devices, stay indoors away from windows, and ensure children remain inside.

Authorities emphasize the importance of vigilance among residents in the affected areas since the impacts of thunderstorms can vary widely. The public is encouraged to keep monitoring official weather updates and adhere to safety recommendations to help mitigate risks associated with this severe weather event.
