A heavy rain alert is currently in effect across the Fiji Group, as a trough of low pressure, along with its associated clouds and rainfall, continues to impact the region. The Fiji Meteorological Service has stated that this weather pattern is expected to persist into the following week, prompting concerns over possible flooding.
Forecasts indicate that occasional heavy rain, accompanied by isolated thunderstorms, will prevail until midnight tonight. Areas particularly at risk include the interior and northern regions of Vanua Levu, specifically Bua, Lekutu, Dreketi, Seaqaqa, Labasa, Namuka, and Udu Point. Similarly, the interior, western, and northern stretches of Viti Levu—stretching from Momi through Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, and Ra—are also under advisement, along with the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups.
In addition, isolated thunderstorms with heavy rainfall are expected throughout the day, particularly in the afternoon and evening, which could lead to hazardous flash flooding in low-lying areas. The weather outlook for Monday suggests continued heavy rain and thunderstorms across most regions, maintaining a heightened risk of flash flooding in susceptible areas.
As the situation develops, residents are urged to remain vigilant and prepared for challenging weather conditions. Take necessary precautions to ensure safety and minimize potential impacts from the ongoing rainfall.
