A Topical Disturbance, referred to as TD 01F, is expected to result in heavy rainfall across the Fiji Group until tomorrow. The Fiji Meteorological Service reported that at noon today, TD 01F was situated approximately 240 km west of Yasawa-i-rara and about 270 km west-northwest of Nadi, moving southeast at a speed of 20 km/h.
Currently, a heavy rain warning is in effect for the entire Fiji group, while a strong wind advisory is active for coastal areas in the western and northern parts of Viti Levu, including locations from Sigatoka to Nadi, Lautoka, Ba through Tavua to Rakiraki, as well as the interior regions of Ba, Ra, and Nadroga/Navosa. Additional warnings extend to the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Vatulele, Kadavu, Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and several nearby small islands, as well as Lau and the Lomaiviti groups.
Residents near major rivers should heed an ongoing flood alert, particularly in areas prone to floods and flash flooding. As TD01F approaches, periods of rain—with some heavy showers and thunderstorms—are anticipated throughout most regions, combining with strong northwest winds until the system exits the area tomorrow.
The threat of localized heavy rainfall could exacerbate flooding in areas already saturated with water, particularly downstream of major rivers and small streams. As the disturbance continues its approach, river levels are expected to rise across the country.
In summary, residents should prepare for adverse weather conditions and take necessary precautions to stay safe during this period of heavy rainfall and potential flooding. While such weather events are challenging, the ability of communities to come together and support each other during adverse conditions can foster resilience and solidarity.
