The Fiji Meteorological Service reports that Tropical Cyclone Rae is expected to gradually weaken as it tracks south-southeast away from the Southern Lau Group later today. Currently, the cyclone is situated approximately 10 kilometers north-northeast of Ono-i-Lau and about 185 kilometers south of Kabara, moving at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour.

In light of the impending weather, a storm warning is in effect for Vatoa and Ono-i-Lau, along with a gale warning applicable to Lakeba, Oneata, Moce, Komo, Namuka-i-Lau, Kabara, Fulaga, Ogea, and Totoya. The expected wind speeds in these areas could range from 65 to 110 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching between 90 to 155 kilometers per hour. Winds are projected to moderate later today, easing to strong to gale-force levels.

A heavy rain warning is also in place across the entire Fiji group, raising concerns about potential flash flooding, especially in low-lying, vulnerable areas of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. Given the active convergence zone affecting the northern and eastern parts of the region, residents should stay vigilant for strong winds and heavy rainfall.

Reflecting on past weather events, the Fiji community demonstrates a commendable spirit of preparedness and solidarity. Local leaders continue to emphasize the importance of securing homes, gathering emergency supplies, and maintaining open lines of communication. As Fijians confront this storm, their capacity for unity and cooperation could serve as vital tools in weathering the challenges posed by Tropical Cyclone Rae.

In facing adversity, communities draw strength from their shared experiences, aiming to emerge resilient from this natural disturbance. The storm presents not only difficulties but also an opportunity for Fijians to come together and support each other, reinforcing the bonds that strengthen their community in times of crisis.
