A weakening trough of low pressure over eastern Fiji, combined with a moist northerly wind flow, will keep the country unsettled through tonight. The National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi issued this bulletin at 5:30am on Thursday 19 March 2026, advising that associated cloud and showers will affect eastern and northern parts of the group with a risk of heavy falls and thunderstorms into the evening.

Occasional showers with heavy falls and afternoon or evening thunderstorms are expected over the Greater Suva/Nausori–Tailevu area, Coral Coast to Navua, interior Ra–Rakiraki, Naitasiri and Serua–Namosi, interior Nadroga–Navosa, Tailevu North, eastern Macuata and Cakaudrove provinces, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands. Elsewhere conditions will generally be fine apart from afternoon or evening showers and isolated thunderstorms.

Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low-lying and flood-prone areas, so caution is advised in river valleys and coastal flood-prone communities. Winds are expected to be moderate from the north today, gradually shifting to northeasterly late tonight, with seas remaining moderate. Friday’s outlook calls for cloudy periods with showers in the same eastern and northern districts, with moderate easterly winds and moderate seas.

Several population centres should prepare for the heavier activity. Navua, Suva and Nausori can expect occasional showers with heavy falls and evening thunderstorms, with temperatures around a 24°C minimum and a 31°C maximum (rising slightly on Friday). Tavua and Rakiraki, Nabouwalu, Savusavu, Taveuni, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, and Kadavu are also forecast to see occasional heavy showers and thunderstorms through this period; many of these areas carry similar daytime temperatures in the mid-20s to low-30s Celsius.

Rotuma remains under the influence of a trough with a moist easterly flow. The island will see cloudy periods with showers and isolated thunderstorms, with the possibility of heavy falls. Winds there are expected to be moderate to fresh easterlies and seas moderate to rough. Minimum and maximum temperatures for Rotuma are around 25°C and 31°C, with similar conditions expected into Friday.
