A trough of low pressure continues to persist over the Fiji Group, bringing clouds and heavy rainfall to the region. This system is slowly moving eastward, as reported by the Fiji Meteorological Service on Friday.
Showers are anticipated to impact various areas of Fiji throughout the day, particularly in Suva, Nausori, and Tailevu, as well as in Sigatoka, Coral Coast, the interior regions of Ra-Rakiraki, Naitasiri, Serua, Namosi, Lau, and the Lomaiviti Group. Meanwhile, other parts of the group will experience cloudy conditions with scattered showers and potential afternoon or evening thunderstorms, which may result in significant downpours.
Residents are advised to be cautious, as localized heavy rains could trigger flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
Looking ahead to Sunday, the forecast suggests continued cloudy conditions with showers affecting the greater Suva-Nausori-Tailevu regions, the interior of Ra-Rakiraki, Naitasiri, and the Serua-Namosi area, as well as parts of Southern Bua and Cakaudrove, along with the Lau and Lomaiviti groups. However, other regions are expected to remain predominantly fine, with only isolated afternoon or evening showers.
This rainfall could be beneficial for agricultural areas, providing much-enneeded water for crops, though residents should remain vigilant and prepared for potential flooding impacts.
