A slow-moving trough of low pressure is currently situated over Fiji, bringing associated cloud cover and rain that is anticipated to affect the region until tomorrow, according to the Fiji Meteorological Service. Additionally, a shallow Tropical Disturbance (TD03F) is positioned to the east of Fiji, expected to drift southeast away from the islands.

This weather system will lead to occasional rainfall, with heavier showers and some thunderstorms expected in several areas, including Navua, Suva, Nausori, and parts of Tailevu. Areas such as coastal Serua-Namosi, the interior regions of Serua-Namosi, Naitasiri, Kadavu, and surrounding smaller islands, as well as Cakaudrove, Southern Bua, Lomaiviti, and Lau groups, are also likely to experience this weather.

The Fiji Meteorological Service warns that persistent heavy rainfall could result in flash flooding, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas, as well as along small streams. However, the forecast indicates that the rain will gradually ease by later Thursday, providing relief to residents affected by the rainfall.

In summary, while the weather forecast suggests challenging conditions with the potential for flash floods, the situation is expected to improve soon. This forecast serves as a reminder of the importance of preparedness during adverse weather events, and highlights how communities can come together to support each other through periods of heavy rainfall and its aftermath.
