A topical disturbance known as TD 01F is currently affecting Fiji, bringing the potential for heavy rainfall across the group until tomorrow. According to the Fiji Meteorological Service, the system was situated approximately 240 kilometers west of Yasawa-i-rara and about 270 kilometers west-northwest of Nadi at noon today. The disturbance is moving southeast at around 20 kilometers per hour.

In response to the weather situation, a heavy rain warning is in effect for the entire Fiji region. Additionally, strong wind warnings have been issued for coastal areas in the western and northern parts of Viti Levu, including Sigatoka to Nadi, Lautoka, Ba through Tavua to Rakiraki, as well as regions such as the interior of Ba, Ra, and Nadroga/Navosa. Areas like Yasawa, Mamanuca, Vatulele, Kadavu, Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and various smaller islands in the Lau and Lomaiviti groups are also included in the warnings.

Flood alerts are ongoing for all regions prone to flooding adjacent to major rivers throughout Fiji, with specific concerns for flash flooding in low-lying areas and small streams on Vanua Levu and the western sections of Viti Levu. Residents can expect periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms as TD 01F advances towards the islands, accompanied by strong northwest winds. As rainfall intensifies today, localized heavy downpours could lead to flash flooding in areas already saturated from previous rains.

The river levels across the nation are anticipated to rise as the disturbance continues to bring additional rainfall, which calls for vigilance among communities living near major waterways.

As Fiji prepares for the impacts of TD 01F, it is essential for residents to remain informed and adhere to safety warnings issued by the meteorological services. Community resilience is crucial during such weather challenges, and staying prepared can help mitigate risks and ensure safety during adverse conditions.
