A trough of low pressure is currently positioned to the south and west of Fiji, as reported by the Nadi weather office. This weather pattern is expected to gradually shift northward towards the islands over the next few days. Consequently, residents can anticipate an increase in rain from later today, with the possibility of occasionally heavy downpours and thunderstorms.

The forecast indicates that areas such as the interior and southern parts of Viti Levu, particularly from Serua/Namosi through Tailevu, as well as the interior and southern regions of Vanua Levu, specifically Cakaudrove to Southern Bua, will experience occasional rain that could be heavy at times. Meanwhile, other parts of Fiji can expect cloudy skies with scattered showers and isolated heavy falls.

Given the expected persistent heavy rainfall, there is a risk of flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and prepare for potential impacts as the rain develops.

Previously reported weather patterns show that Fiji has been experiencing similar troughs affecting various regions, resulting in localized heavy rainfall and a heightened risk of flooding in vulnerable areas. As noted, while the rain may bring some challenges, it is essential for replenishing water supplies and supporting agricultural needs in the region.

Overall, this weather system underscores the importance of preparedness among communities, allowing for cautious engagement with the predicted heavy rains while holding onto the positive aspect of nurturing the environment and agriculture.
