A heavy rain alert has been issued for the Western Division and Kadavu as a slow-moving trough of low pressure continues to impact Fiji. The Fiji Meteorological Service reported that Tropical Disturbance 09F (TD09F) was situated near Vanuatu around midday and is anticipated to gradually intensify while moving southwest towards Fiji over the coming days.

As TD09F advances, it is expected to bring robust northwesterly winds along with significant rainfall in the Western Division, beginning from late Saturday. Residents should prepare for occasional showers that may become heavy along with potential thunderstorms.

From late Saturday, the forecast predicts an increase in showers, transitioning to frequent rain that may be occasionally heavy, accompanied by thunderstorms. Winds are expected to be moderate to strong, blowing from the north to northwest at average speeds of up to 40 km/h, with gusts potentially reaching 60 km/h.

There is also a risk of localized heavy rainfall, which could lead to flash flooding in susceptible areas, particularly in low-lying regions. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and take appropriate precautions during this weather event. With the right preparations, communities can navigate this weather change safely.
