A heavy rain warning is currently in effect for the entire Fiji Islands as an active trough of low pressure continues to bring significant rainfall to the region. Alongside this, a flood warning has been issued for areas near the Ba, Nasivi (Tavua), and Nakauvadra (Rakiraki) rivers, highlighting the risk of flooding in these vulnerable regions. Similarly, a flood alert is in place for all major rivers, and a flash flood warning has been issued for all low-lying flood-prone areas throughout Fiji.

Additionally, strong winds are expected along the coastal regions of western and northern Viti Levu, affecting areas from Sigatoka to Nadi, Lautoka, and extending through to Ba and Tavua to Rakiraki. The interior regions of Ba, Ra, and other nearby provinces, along with the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, are also under a strong wind warning.

Another wave of rain is anticipated as a second trough of low pressure approaches from the west, projected to bring more rainfall from tomorrow through Sunday. Given the already saturated ground conditions, there is a heightened risk of flash flooding in various areas and small streams throughout the country.

As river levels rise across major waterways, the risk of river flooding increases, particularly during high tide events. The Fiji Meteorological Service is actively monitoring the situation and will provide updates on warnings and forecasts as necessary.

As the weather situation unfolds, it’s crucial for the residents of Fiji to stay informed and take proactive measures to ensure their safety. Community resilience is key in facing such challenges, and timely updates from meteorological services can help guide actions to mitigate risks.

In summary, Fiji is currently facing a serious weather situation with heavy rain and potential flooding. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and prepared as authorities closely monitor developments.
