A heavy rain alert has been issued for the entire Fiji group, following a downgrade from a heavy rain warning. This development is associated with Tropical Cyclone Seru, which has now weakened into a low-pressure system situated in the far southwest of Fiji. The Nadi weather office has indicated that a trough of low pressure is still affecting the region, resulting in increased cloudiness and rain, primarily from the west.

The forecast indicates the likelihood of sporadic showers, with particular regions such as the Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups, Kadavu, Lau, and Lomaiviti groups potentially experiencing isolated heavy rain and thunderstorms. In Viti Levu, southern and interior areas stretching from Momi to Suva, including Naitasiri and Serua/Namosi, are expected to see afternoon and evening downpours mixed with heavy rainfall.

In response to the ongoing heavy rainfall, authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant about the risk of flash flooding, especially in lower-lying and flood-sensitive areas. It is crucial for communities to prepare and be aware of their surroundings, as localized flooding can pose significant hazards.

While the current weather challenges are formidable, they emphasize the importance of community resilience and preparedness. Past weather events have shown the necessity for residents to stay informed and take precautions to handle potential flooding. This situation serves as a reminder of nature’s strength and the collective effort required to navigate through difficult times. Fortunately, a potential shift in weather patterns suggests that clearing skies may be on the horizon, offering hope for communities to recover and rebuild.
