The National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO) has issued a warning urging the public to stay vigilant and be prepared as a Heavy Rain Warning is in effect for the entire Fiji Group. Residents are advised to keep a close eye on weather updates since flash flooding is likely to occur in low-lying areas, informal settlements, businesses, and Irish crossings. These conditions may significantly disrupt traffic and daily activities across affected regions.

Motorists and commuters are particularly urged to exercise caution as surface flooding and reduced visibility are predicted, especially in urban centers known for inadequate drainage systems. The NDRMO has strongly cautioned against attempting to cross or swim in flooded areas, including rivers, streams, drains, and roads, as water levels rising above knee height pose a severe risk of injury or worse.

With ground conditions already saturated from previous rainfall, the agency also highlights an elevated risk of landslides in susceptible areas. Residents in need of assistance relocating to safer ground should reach out to the Fiji Police Force or the National Fire Authority. The NDRMO website provides information on designated evacuation centers for those displaced.

In the spirit of community support, the NDRMO encourages everyone to look out for their neighbors during this adverse weather, supervise children closely, and check on the well-being of elderly residents and individuals with special needs. By remaining alert and supportive, communities can navigate these challenging weather conditions more safely together.
