The Divisional Commissioner North is actively preparing for anticipated wet weather conditions expected over the next two days. This morning, Commissioner Uraia Rainima convened a meeting with leaders from various essential services, including the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA), police, fire services, and other relevant organizations. The goal was to finalize operational plans and ensure that resources are available to support affected communities.

Despite heavy rainfall overnight, the FRA has reported that road connectivity across the island remains intact and accessibility has not been compromised. In addition, the Fiji Meteorological Service has provided a comprehensive forecast that allows stakeholders to fine-tune their preparedness efforts.

The Ministry of Education has been alerted to prepare schools to function as evacuation centers if necessary. Residents in low-lying areas are advised to proactively prepare by moving to higher ground during daylight hours to reduce risks. It is especially recommended to avoid unnecessary travel during nighttime to enhance safety for both residents and first responders. Individuals unsure about evacuation centers or needing assistance should contact local authorities or the police.

Commissioner Rainima has also called on farmers to safeguard their livestock by relocating them to higher ground and taking necessary precautions for their livelihoods. He emphasized the need for community vigilance, urging everyone to listen to weather advisories and remain calm while preparing for potential challenges.

The Commissioner’s Office will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary, ensuring that the safety and well-being of the community remain the top priority.

For assistance, residents can reach out through the provided contact numbers for the Commissioner’s Office and their local police stations.

This proactive approach reflects a commitment to community safety and preparedness, showcasing the resilience and cooperation among various agencies in facing challenges posed by adverse weather. By staying informed and taking early action, the community can navigate potential difficulties with greater ease.
