The Fiji Meteorological Service has announced a Heavy Rain Alert for the entire Fiji Group, cautioning residents about the potential for flooding and traffic disruptions in the upcoming days. The National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi indicates that a moist north to northeast wind flow is currently affecting the nation, with an active trough of low pressure expected to move in from the west, impacting Fiji from late Tuesday.

Forecasters predict that from tomorrow, conditions will worsen with occasional rain, some of it heavy, and the possibility of thunderstorms. The confidence in this forecast is rated as moderate, underscoring the need for vigilance among residents.

Authorities warn that the heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding, particularly in flood-prone areas and low-lying regions, including informal settlements, businesses, and Irish crossings. This situation could significantly disrupt traffic. Additionally, urban areas with inadequate drainage systems are likely to experience surface flooding.

Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution as wet roads and reduced visibility during heavy downpours can enhance the risk of road accidents. In light of these conditions, authorities emphasize the importance of staying informed and taking all necessary precautions during this period of heavy rainfall.

By remaining alert and prepared, residents can help mitigate the impact of the severe weather expected in the coming days.
