A topical disturbance identified as TD 01F has the potential to develop into a tropical cyclone, bringing heavy rainfall to the Fiji Group until tomorrow. The Fiji Meteorological Service reports that TD 01F was positioned approximately 240km west of Yasawa-i-rara, or 270km west northwest of Nadi, as of midday today, moving southeast at around 20km/h.

In response to the situation, a heavy rain warning is in effect for the entire Fiji Group. Additionally, a strong wind warning applies to the coastal areas of western and northern Viti Levu, including regions from Sigatoka to Nadi, Lautoka, Ba through Tavua to Rakiraki, as well as the interiors of Ba, Ra, and Nadroga/Navosa. Warnings also extend to the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Vatulele, Kadavu, Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and nearby smaller islands, as well as the Lau and Lomaiviti groups.

Furthermore, a flood alert has been issued for flood-prone areas adjacent to and downstream of major rivers across Fiji, while a flash flood warning is in place for low-lying areas prone to rapid flooding, particularly in Vanua Levu and the western parts of Viti Levu.

As TD 01F approaches, residents can expect periods of heavy rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong northwest winds. The anticipated localized heavy rainfall could exacerbate flooding conditions in areas already susceptible to flash floods, especially where the ground is saturated.

With caution and preparedness, communities can work together to manage the impacts of the expected heavy rains. Local authorities are likely to monitor conditions closely and provide updates to ensure public safety.

Overall, while the weather may present challenges, it serves as a reminder for everyone in the impacted areas to stay informed and take necessary precautions, fostering resilience in the face of natural disturbances.
