A topical disturbance designated as TD 01F is set to bring significant rainfall to the Fiji Group through tomorrow, with a low likelihood of developing into a tropical cyclone. The Fiji Meteorological Service reported that as of midday, the system was situated approximately 240km west of Yasawa-i-rara and 270km northwest of Nadi, advancing southeast at around 20km/hr.

In response to the weather conditions, a heavy rain warning is now active for the entire Fiji group. Additionally, a strong wind warning applies to the coastal areas in the western and northern sections of Viti Levu, specifically from Sigatoka to Nadi, Lautoka, and Ba, stretching through Tavua to Rakiraki. Other areas affected include the central regions of Ba, Ra, and Nadroga/Navosa, along with the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Vatulele, Kadavu, Vanua Levu, Taveuni, as well as the Lau and Lomaiviti groups.

Flood alerts are currently in place for regions prone to flooding adjacent to and downstream of major rivers, while flash flood warnings are active for low-lying areas, particularly in Vanua Levu and parts of Viti Levu. Expect periods of rain, heavy at times, along with occasional thunderstorms as TD01F approaches. Strong northwest winds are also anticipated as the system nears and subsequently moves away from Fiji.

Notably, the river levels in the major rivers are projected to rise due to the influx of additional rainfall from the disturbance, with localized heavy downpours potentially causing flash flooding in already saturated regions throughout the country.

In light of the heavy rainfall and flooding warnings, it is essential for residents to remain vigilant and prepared for possible adverse weather conditions. Authorities may take proactive measures to ensure safety in vulnerable areas, emphasizing the importance of community awareness and readiness during such disturbances.
