A heavy rain warning is now in effect for the entire Fiji Group as weather conditions continue to deteriorate across the nation. The Fiji Meteorological Service reports that a trough of low pressure is bringing cloud cover, showers, and persistent rain to the region, and this trend is expected to persist in the coming days.

Forecasters predict sporadic rain today, with heavy downpours likely, along with a few thunderstorms. From tomorrow onwards, the rainfall is expected to intensify, characterized by occasional to continuous periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms. Over the past 24 hours, significant rainfall has already been recorded, with totals including 91.0mm at Wairikicake, 82.5mm at Dreketilailai, and 81.5mm at Nanoko, among others.

The Fiji Meteorological Service has cautioned that the heavy rains may lead to flash flooding in vulnerable and low-lying areas, affecting informal settlements, businesses, and Irish crossings, which could disrupt traffic. Additionally, urban regions with inadequate drainage systems may experience surface flooding.

Motorists are advised to proceed with caution as wet roads and diminished visibility from heavy rains could heighten the risk of accidents. Authorities are encouraging the public to remain alert, stay updated on weather forecasts, and take the necessary precautions as heavy rainfall continues to impact the country.

This warning highlights the importance of preparedness and safety in the face of adverse weather conditions. With continued vigilance and proactive measures, communities can better cope with the challenges posed by severe weather.
