A heavy rain warning has been issued for the western and interior regions of Viti Levu, the Northern Lau Group, as well as the Yasawa and Mamanuca Islands, including the Northern division. This alert is attributed to an active trough of low pressure, which is bringing slow-moving cloud and rain to the northeastern parts of Fiji.
Additionally, attention is being drawn to a tropical disturbance system, identified as system 01F, which is currently situated approximately 450 kilometers West-Northwest of Yasawa-i-Rara and is advancing southeastward at a speed of 10 kilometers per hour. The Fiji Meteorological Service has assessed that the likelihood of this system developing into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 to 48 hours remains very low to low.
In light of the trough of low pressure, residents in the affected areas should prepare for heavy rainfall starting later today, particularly in the Yasawa and Mamanuca islands, as well as the Northern division and parts of Viti Levu.
This situation underlines the importance of staying informed during severe weather events, as timely warnings allow communities to take necessary precautions. With careful monitoring by the Fiji Meteorological Service, residents can remain vigilant and safe during any potential weather changes.
