The National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi has issued a heavy rain alert for the Northern Division as well as the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, indicating that unstable weather conditions are expected to continue until later on Wednesday.

According to the latest bulletin released at 5:30 AM, a slow-moving trough of low pressure is situated over the Fiji group and is anticipated to drift gradually eastward. The Centre stated that the associated cloud and showers will likely affect the eastern and northern regions of Fiji until later this week.

Rain is expected to be intermittent, with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorms particularly affecting areas such as Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and nearby smaller islands, along with the Lau and Lomaiviti groups. These conditions are projected to persist through tonight but should ease to lighter showers by tomorrow.

Additionally, eastern Viti Levu, including areas like Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri, and parts of Ra, may also experience showers accompanied by isolated heavy falls and thunderstorms.

As the weather situation develops, it remains crucial for residents in these regions to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure safety amid potential flooding and storm conditions.
